The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant awards ceremony nears, there’s always an outcry for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent above others. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences in the world and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
