Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party access places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
